Durable Time Delay Relay

A time delay relay controls when a circuit turns on or off by adding a built-in delay. On off-road machinery, it’s commonly used where equipment needs timed control—such as glow preheat timing, engine shutdown delay, cooling fan run-on, alarms, or other staged power functions. A correct time relay helps systems operate smoothly, rather than switching abruptly.

Failures often look like functions happening at the wrong time. Typical signs include: no preheat or preheat that ends too soon, fan that never runs after shutdown (or runs too long), delayed enable that becomes inconsistent, relay chatter, or heat-damaged terminals. Because timing circuits are sensitive, poor connections can mimic a bad relay.

How do you choose the right time relay?

Time relays are not universal. Match the OEM part number, connector/pin layout, voltage, and the required delay function (delay-on vs delay-off) and timing range. Also, confirm mounting style and environment needs (sealed vs open).
